Bicycling from Bruges to London ~

One thing that you see quite a bit of in Bruges is bicyles ... they are quite keen on using them for their mode of transportation, and on entering the city at the train station, there are over 1500 bicycles parked en masse!!!

I came across these images of the London Transport Museum's cycling competition, and was reminded of all the pedaling I had seen back in Bruges. In this competion, entrants were challenged to create a poster which illustrated London’s growing cycling population and burgeoning green consciousness.

On a recent trip to London, I was quite impressed with how pervasive the greening concept was ... it seemed to be at the forefront of any new intiatives taken by the city as well as private businesses and individuals themselves. A Big Green Thumbs up!

If you happen to be in London, there is a collection of entries which are now on display at the museum, in London's Covent Garden, until August 22nd. Their website also has an interesting film & video selection. For example, if you’d like to take a ride on the Victoria line circa 1970, click here

Congratulations to all the entrants and winners!

How delightful to read about all the bicycle activity in Bruges and London! Charming artworks from that competition too :-) I especially like the first on with the leaf!
We do have lots of bicycles in Toronto. And even bicycles parades twice a year. The City has organized special paths for bicyclists to go through the city in all directions, so they even have bicycle map of Toronto to help you enjoy your ride to the most :-) As you know our Don valley is having such special path too.
I heard that it is a common practice in France and Italy and probably in all Europe to have a bicycle share in city transportation ie you come to the near transport station, take a bicycle and head to your work, for instance, when you done, you may leave it at near station :-) Funny and clever! I know they have such system in Lyon and Roma :-)
Hope you are doing well, dear! Thank you for your warm words :-) The last week was quite busy here and the new one will be the same.
A salut de JR a toi! Bisois xoxo

Bonjour dear Katrin:) Merci for your lovely comment! I believe that the first poster was the winner of the first prize. I really did enjoy all of the graphics!

I would imagine it very appropriate for a green city like Toronto to have accomodations for bicycles as well. And a bicycle parade too ! How novel ! We have the velib program here in Paris, which is just as you described. It was put into effect over the last few years, and from the accounts I've read it's a great success.

Enjoy all your creative and artistic activities my dear et Salut à JR aussi! xoxo
